Society Journal

The Society publishes the journal Sabretache which is mailed to each member of the Society quarterly.

Submissions for Publication

Members are welcome to submit articles to Sabretache. ‘Collector’s Corner’ features items from members’ personal collections and short articles about interesting military items are also welcome. Authors should consult  guidelines for authors for the technical requirements of articles and the Editor would be only too pleased to discuss ideas for potential articles.

Articles submitted by new authors will be considered for the Society’s New Writers’ Prize and 2011 saw the announcement and award of the inaugural Sabretache Writers’ Prize. This prize is competitive, will be judged annually and announced at the Federal Council AGM. Details of the Sabretache Writers’ Prize can be obtained from the Editor but conditions and deadlines will be well-advertised throughout the Society with enough lead-up time to fire up the brain, dip into the primary sources and pick up a pen!

Many of our members are writers and the Editor welcomes details of new releases and review copies.

One of the favourite features in Sabretache is the book review section. The Editor calls upon the expertise of our members to review an eclectic collection of military books received each year from publishing houses and self-publishers. Members interested in being considered for the book review panel should contact the Editor.

A Special Gallipoli Centenary Edition has also been published by the Society in 2015.

Index to “Sabretache”

A series of printed indexes to “Sabretache” does exist, however there is no comprehensive on line version of these.  An online index to selected  articles to 2008 and an index of book reviews to 2001 has been developed by the  former Editor, Anthony Staunton at his original mhsa web site. Click here to go to this.  Any that he is unable to provide can be obtained from the National Library’s Copies Direct service
